Animal Kingdom

Easily one of the best films this year. And it was in Australia. Saw that Guy Pearce was in it so took a chance. Yes, we've seen a lot of gangster films, but this one has the stink of the real about it. Enhanced not a little by the fact I knew none of the actors going in. It's a matriarchal structure, and what a mother. Sort of goes beyond acting to be a social document, so well written, believably acted. There was a hint of a similar story line as A Prophet which I also thought was an amazing film about violence and its ability to corrupt. Never heavy handed, never obvious, never overly bloody, and yet the scariest, most violent film to date. Edge of your seat type of thing. Highly recommended.
